Quince snapped her head around as the mares followed by Tuxedo entered the gully. "Tux." she nickered going over to him. She pressed her chesntunt head against her mates black side beathing a sigh of relife that he was alright.

Tuxedo trotted over to Quince, seeing the look of worry on her face. "I wont go that easily." Tuxedo smirked and nuzzled her softly.

"I was so scared." Quince whispered and she lent into Tuxedo. The chestnut mare nuzzled her black mate back lovingly.

"Everything is fine now." he whispers. "We should keep moving just to be on the safe side." he added. He turned his head away to count the horses around them. Everyone was here safely.

Quince nodded. "Lets go." she said leading the way through the gully. She aimed for an open flat not far from the other end of the gully.

Tuxedo smiled and followed beside her. He was glad that everyone got out unharmed, especially Quince.

Quince went slowly for the foals and herself. She heaved her body up the moutain side and the herd could see the flat below. She turned away from them and started to walk off carefully. The place she had chosen to give birth to her foal was close and she decided to go there then.

Tuxedo watched his mate while he led the herd on. He glanced behind him. Everything seemed in check, so he continued to walk.

Quince looked back at Tux. "I wont be far." she nieghed with a smile. She slipped into the trees as she moved closer to the cave with the soft sandy ground that she wanted for her birth.

"I hope so." Tux whispers. He watched as she disappeared in the distance.

Reaching her cave Quince sighed. The stress of the humans and nearly losing tuxedo had started her birth even though she had kept it hidden the older mare had warned her and she knew that she only had hours left before her first foal was born. the chestnut mare smiled at the fact she would be back with the herd tommorrow with the youngester at foot with her.

Tuxedo was finding it hard to concentrate. He was to excited about being a father. He had nearly walked into a tree because of it. The other mares could sense his excitement.

Quince slowly lay down as the contracts started to become harder to bear and they came closer together.

One of the older mare snorted as Tuxedo nearly ran into a tree. "She will be giving birth soon." she commented to the lead stallion, "the stress of nearly losing you and the humans showing up cause her birth to start a few days early."

Tuxedo glanced over at the mare. "So I see." he replies, glancing back at where Quince had gone. "Even so, I don't like the idea of her being alone. Even if its for a few days."

The mare smiled. "You will have her back by tommorow afternoon with your foal at foot." she said in a calm tone.

Quince pushed as she neared the end of her birth and her foal came into the world. Laying still for a few second to catch some of her breath she flicked her ear. Rolling up she licked her foal clean lovingly. He was perfect to her. Standing she nudged him up and he suckled in the fading light of dusk.

"I sure hope the time goes fast then." Tuxedo smiled. He went into a trott, followed by the herd. The trot was a pace that the foals could keep up. When they reached a large field of grass, Tuxedo decided to stay here for the time being. It was silent here, besides the calls of nature. It was safe.

Quince stood standing over her new born son. Her chestnut head was down as she slept lightly.

Night lay on the soft sadny ground full from his drink and sleepy. His dark eyes closed as the black foal fell asleep.

Tuxedo stayed up that night while he stood guard. He had his ears forward as he listened to the wind blow quietly. He'd know if something came to attack or capture the herd.

~~Next Day~~

The light of dawn showed in the mountains. Quicnces head rose as she looked out of the cave. Her foal stirred at her hooves and he climbed to his feet to suckle. When Night finished she started back to the herd going slowly as she grazed along the way.

Night stayed close to Quince. The soft black coat of his was warmed by the sun. In the distance he could see a herd of horses. "Are they our herd mama?" he asked his chestnut dam.

Tuxedo was eating at a tasty patch of grass. He looked up now and then, just in case he heard hoofbeats.

Quince nooded. "Yes son." she nickered as at Night question. Her hoof struck a rock and the sound carried in the wind towards the herd.

Night followed close to the chestnut mare as they got slowly closer to the herd.

Tuxedo thought he heard hootsteps. I'm probably imagining it, or it's some of the mares playing tricks on me.

Quince paused before the group of rocks and looked around. Seeing none in sight she started down her hooves ringing against the rock as she carefully picked her way down.

Night carefully followed his dam. His small hooves made less noise than hers but were still there.

Tuxedo was still listening slightly. He grabbed a nice juicy peace of grass and chewed happily.

Night accidently sent a rock flying down over the mountain. It rattled over the rock and he snorted with fear as Quince stopped and waited for him to catch up.

Quince nuzzled her son as he suckled for comfort after his scare. Deciding he had had enough she nudged him. "Come on." she said softly starting up again.
